Im not sure which of these methods is correct or if both are buttt

If you light special via the upper rollovers it will put up a full black and red deck..until you clear it once

but if you light it via the drop targets it will only show the reds.

Im not sure which one is the normal behaviour.

It is correct.

On the real machine, the upper rollovers when completed trigger 5000 pts, reset the drops, reset the rollovers, and advance the light (shoot for..., up to special. If the special light was already lit, it will knock down the black targets. It's a separate mechanism to knock down the black targets).

So if you're shooting for Royal flush with all nine targets up, get a few and then complete the upper rollovers it will reset all 9 targets and light special, which is how it behaves in game and on the real machine.

Another reason I love farsight doing EM's. Other digital attempts get combinations of the rules wrong or miss this sort of situation.
