These only cost you 0.00 if you pay 0.00 taxes, fees and licensing costs for everything else in life. Otherwise you are paying for it, you just may not realize it. I always find it funny when Aussies talk about their minimum wage, when it amounts to just about $11.50 US an hour but gets taxed at 19% (here in the US that would be in the 0% tax bracket plus you may even get credits) and everything in Australia is at least 10% to 15% more expensive. Your petrol (our gas) is $1.55 per litre ($5.86 per gallon), while here it is an average of $2.00 per gallon. And don't get me started on your video games and other hobby costs. However, you have a beautiful country, and it is a great place to visit.

Plus we have social programs like Social Security and Medicaid/Medicare (disability/retirement pension, medical coverage) here as well that most workers pay into. Its just that "socialism" is a bad word around here, and many Americans prefer to be self-sufficient, or at least pretend that they are, but sadly many Americans have nothing saved for a rainy day and are looking more and more at government bodies to assist them.

trash nicely put , yep the our dollar is lower but for our exporters it`s great being low . i forgot to tell you we have compulsory 9 %superannuation which is paid by the boss , so by the time you retire there`s a little packet for you . if you haven`t enough in there you are topped up by a part pension . i can`t understand why Americans hate socialism . the 2.2 trillion helping hand for workers and companies is socialism . i`m glad the 2 hospital ships have arrived . things have changed here , the police and army are out everywhere , fines on the spot for the idiots who don`t listen . keep safe trash .

The 2.2 trillion is "stimulus," not "socialism." Should we start getting monthly checks indefinitely, then that would be socialism. There is a difference, though somewhat pedantic. Around where I live, it feels like we have teleported back 50+ years, families walking around, neighbors sitting in their front yards chatting with passerby, a real resurgence of community. Maybe the world needed a reset?

strict here trash , only 2 people allowed together , they really want to stop the spread of the virus . yep our boofhead pollies called it stimulus first , now there calling it safety package . seems like new package every 4-5 days . bike riders were hanging around together early in the week , not the last couple of days . the police fined a shop owner for playing cards with his customers . all food and coffee shops are take -away only . there telling us it could be 6 months or more . they have joined public and private hospitals together, all elective surgery has been postponed till after the virus goes . it has freed up heaps of beds for ICU . i had 2 hospital appointments cancelled until the virus passes . down the road from me we have the Brisbane Convention Centre , there looking at in case things turn to s... , for more beds . i agree things will change for the better when it`s all over , hehe people talking with each other !!! stay safe , going to sleep 2-13 am here . trash did you here The President handed in his pink slip !!!

I said it's communism, not socialism:

1. income equality (stimulus checks)

2. state dictatorship to enforce "equality"

2a. zero individual freedom

2b. zero small business ownership. The only businesses allowed are mega-corporations like apple and amazon, both of which are spy organizations for the government anyway. In other words, they are branches of the government masquerading as private enterprise.

3. maximum surveillance of the populace (big brother): google, android, IOS, smartphones, Alexa.

4. banning of religion. No church services.

In effect, everything is under governmental control now. That's what they want: more power. Less for you, more for them.

This will end with the state monopolizing control over politics and the economy (and culture and religion). Anyone who is not a part of the state apparatus will be left with nothing but subsistence rations:

1. micro-house or apartment

2. food and other essentials state rationed

3. basic health care

4. media access to state propaganda

After the implementation of communist dictatorship, things will get worse, much worse. Look to Joseph Stalin, Chairman Mao and Pol Pot in recent history for examples of how communist governments treat their citizens.

What's discouraging is that even a tiny bit of research will reveal that the hysteria is all a hoax, based upon cooked numbers, which many "health care" officials will openly admit to.

Now that most people have far more free time than is typical, either very few are curious enough to inform themselves, or if they do, are too passive or demoralized to try to educate others.

Instead, people are wishing death and injury and infection upon those who defy the rollout of the communist state instead.

That ain't six feet. The police state doesn't have to follow it's own orders, I see.

People are losing their minds and killing one another and themselves due to quarantine:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...9-accused-Britains-self-isolation-murder.html

NINE die in string of killings as UK enters second week of quarantine: Family of four are found dead at home, a husband is charged with killing wife, nurse is stabbed to death and father, mother and daughter die in murder-suicide

And domestic violence is on the rise:

Women's aid say more resources are needed amid the coronavirus lockdown as domestic abuse cases surge

There is massive passive aggressive defiance of shelter in place in my local area. The outdoor rec areas are packed to the brim. I've never seen them this crowded. On certain roads, there are many more bicyclists than cars.

The grocery stores are packed--although oddly enough, the parking lots have many more empty spaces than before during 'rush hour.'

I laughed at the Italians when they implemented (and followed) social distancing. Now, it's in place locally! WTF?!?

I don't know if people are being 'defiant.' But perhaps there is some subconscious realization or even a conscious one, that their freedoms are scarce, and can be taken from them at a moment's notice. People don't need to be told 'enjoy your limited freedoms while you still can;' they instinctively realize they don't have long.

On a positive note, stock is increasing: it's relatively poor, but getting better slowly, at a snail's pace. There has to be some cap to how much food and toilet paper people can buy. The cap is high, but it's still there. The bottom of the barrel pricing model is gone for now. With the sales gone, non perishables are being sold at list, meaning double the typical sale pricing, and sometimes a lot more than that. The hoarders have screwed us pretty good, at least for the short term. There is likely going to be a lot of wasted food from these recent hoarding adventures.

And yeah, still no toilet paper in stock. At least not on a busy weekday evening.

Good grief, all of this over a completely concocted pseudo-crisis.
