As a side note the NVidia was outputting a warning to the overlay that stated that the application was not rated for the NVS 290
I had to press <CTL> + <ALT> + <Insert> to toggle off the message.
You'll see that message when you run a game in stereoscopic 3D mode - the "not rated" bit means that the drivers don't have a specific profile for the game you're running.

FWIW, when I upgraded to Windows 8.1 on one of my PCs I saw that message on games despite not enabling 3D Vision (or even having a 3D Vision emitter connected). Games would come up in red/blue stereographic mode. My other PC simply refused to run any games, just saying no 3D hardware detected.

In both cases it was solved by downloading the latest drivers from nVidia's website and installing them.

(I'm looking forward to trying Pinball Arcade tomorrow... it's about time a spiritual successor to the ancient Microsoft Pinball Arcade came along!)
