Inspired by the "where do you rank" thread, I have attempted to rank all TPA players, or those that show up on the website's leaderboard, anyway. I gave 100 points to a player for having the #1 score on a table, 99 points for the #2 score, and on down to 1 point for the #100 score. Scores lower than #100 got no points. I added up the points and here is the result:

In the few cases where I was sure a score was the result of a hack, I ignored all scores for that username. There are probably scores/usernames here that are hacks that I could not identify as such. There are a bunch of RBioN scores a hair over 10B that I ignored because they look like glitches to me. I probably misspelled some usernames or missed some scores, hopefully not too many.

I guess I approve of this ranking system. :) Although I'm on top from quantity as much as quality, I've taken the time on every single table to push into a decent leaderboard spot, except season 3 and MM. Some of the unpopular ones like Victory and El Dorado I had my #1 spot in just one day of playing.

Yeah the Ripley's leaderboard is total garbage. All those just-over-10B or 20B scores must have been registered by fooling or hacking TPA's rollover detection into giving credit for the ten-billions digit.

Nice work! How'd you do it, just scrape the output from pinballarcade's pages and do some spreadsheet crunching?

Wow that's a bit of work. Nice to see I still have some top ten spots as I kind of ignore the leaderboards and focus on the tournaments :)

I'd like to say I scraped it, but the webpage leaderboards appear to be inside a flash thingie that I cannot figure out how to unravel. I would very much like to know a way of extracting the data from the webpage. I asked here awhile back and I don't think anyone knew/cared, and time passed and I wanted to do this badly enough that I just gave in and typed the usernames in a spreadsheet. If I do this again I think I can copy/paste a page of 10 scores in one swipe and that might speed up the process.

The results come from a very little program that operates on the spreadsheet.

Thanks for taking the time to get that together. Good to see it all in one place like that.

Hey if I'm understanding your system right I should be on your full list with 20 "big points" for having #81 on Firepower. What place does that put me in?

it's pointless until here will be differentiation between platforms: most top scores are from mobiles and tablets with simplyfied physics.

"most top scores are from mobiles and tablets with simplyfied physics."

Is there any evidence to suggest this is true?

all devices play a little different yes (some are easier than others), but I don't believe "mobiles and tablets have simplified physics".

on PC, I find I get different results depending on which table I navigate to the leaderboards from. I'm sure Mike can fix this with a bit of debugging.

I scrape the top 2000 for every table every few weeks or so.
I built some SVG graphs to display the results, but I haven't put them up on a server anywhere.

Here's an example, showing just how broken the top scores are for RBION:

For those interested in further statistical exploration of pinball scoring from a slightly different perspective: Why You Don't Achieve At Least Half Your High Score At Least Half the Time

Also, RBION is a really bad table to use as an example, as there was a bug early on in its life that added 10B (and in a few cases 20B) to the actual scores. That's why you have that huge concentration of scores at 10B interrupting what would otherwise be a nice exponential curve.
