Well I started with just the base game and then added the Reaper expansion once I had a grasp on the game and saw all the base adventure and spell cards. Adding the Reaper expansion really expanded the game in terms of cards and the Reaper itself which can kill off characters with one dice roll. It also adds an alternate ending Dance Macabre which is fun. After many more hours I'd seen everything from the Reaper expansion so now I'm starting the Sacred Pool expansion. This one adds a lot of alignment cards so you can change your good/evil/neutral standing to get fate and heals easier. It also has cards that put graveyards on different places on the board. I guess it has stuff that helps out neutral characters as well because as you know if you're neutral it's harder to heal or get fate. This one also adds two endings,a judgement one where players vote if you're worthy or not and a end boss on the CoC. I've only played one game with The Sacred Pool expansion. I added it on top of the Reaper expansion but with the Reaper NPC turned off. So base game, Reaper cards and characters with Sacred Pool cards and characters. It wasn't the greatest though because I had some Bloodbath house rules turned on, only one Talisman in the Talisman deck and no healing while a character is on the CoC. Those rules are fine for the base game ending but when you start getting into the expansion endings it's best to turn those off. I always play with permanent death though, otherwise the game can drag. So to answer your question the base game and Reaper expansion go really well together. The Sacred Pool is good too since it balances alignments but I haven't played with it enough to have a solid opinion on it. I'm just going to keep adding expansions once I've seen everything from the one I just added. Looking forward to the Dragon expansion because those cards and characters look pretty cool and The City so I can play as the Tavern Maid. Oh, I did play the Firelands expansion with the free trial before I got everything and it was fun but I think it would work better after putting the board expansions on. I played that with the base game and Reaper expansion. I ended up winning because the CPU got killed by a burning board space in the Outer Region even though he won the battle. Never got to a Firelands CoC ending, deadly expansion.
